  • This is probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve found in Buffalo. Try their sushi boat, wasabi octopus, and pork cutlet rice — they taste just like what I had in Japan! It’s a great spot for company gatherings too. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared them, which made it fun to try everything. Big thanks to Tiffany for taking such good care of us — you can really feel how much she values every customer.

  • Please try their sashimi — it literally shines! I was so pleasantly surprised. The store is always clean and cozy — easily one of my top 3 spots in Buffalo. Special thanks to manager Tiffany, who is super friendly and makes every visit a great experience!

  • Friendly and quick staff and great food for a good price! Enjoy having dinner here before catching a movie at North Park Theatre. Drinks are good as well -they have Hayburner on tap. Highly recommend

  • I'm so excited, The City of Buffalo has a new upscale Japanese restaurant on Hertel! The food at Taisho Hertel is fantastic, and the presentation of everything we ordered was very impressive. We found the atmosphere and service to be a bit disjointed. Upon walking in, it was great to see they kept the historic Buffalo mural up behind the bar (although the host had no idea of when it was from or where it was taken) I had to look it up to find it was from the 1901 Buffalo Labor Day Parade on Main Street-very cool! The restaurant and bar have great potential, but the complete lack of any music left it feeling lifeless. We had no idea who our waiter was the entire evening. They attempted to bring other table's orders over to us a few times. The service wasn't bad. It was just confusing. You could tell they were trying. We would also love to see some more drink options to stay competitive with the restaurant bars on Hertel. Aside from their specialty drink menu, their options are very limited. Our reservation was for 6 pm on Saturday. We were lucky to find a parking spot right out front (it seems only street parking is available). They seated us promptly when we arrived, which was much appreciated. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening! With a little fine tuning, Taisho Hertel could easily be in the running as one of the best sushi restaurants in the city!

  • They have a great menu that also has pictures. More places should be like that, include more pictures of your food and people might branch out and order something they usually wouldn't. They have a good lunch deal and happy hour prices, I should have gotten pix of their menu for that, woops Ordered takoyaki (my favorite), spider roll (deep fried crab), spider appetizer, tuna roll. All were great and nicely presented. They have a good amount of TVs, too, looks like a good place to watch a Bills, Sabres, or Bandits game. Service was good

  • Ordered this place for takeout after having a negative experience somewhere else, the ramen broth was tasty and the takoyaki seemed fresh. My only complaint would be a lack of chopsticks in the order (my fault for not specifying utensils) and the chicken katsu side which honestly didn’t taste that good. Overall a solid 4/5 restaurant however, and I would recommend ordering food from here.

  • My brother’s wife passed away unexpectedly, and Taisho was her favorite restaurant. We needed a place for people to gather after the memorial and my brother, her widower, felt strongly about it being Taisho. If you’ve ever had the awful task of planning a surprise memorial, you’ll know it’s a miserable, sad, and chaotic mess. Taisho went out of their way to make it easier on us. They dealt with surprises and changes. They met our needs even when it was especially difficult for them. That attention to us alone was so remarkable I’d shovel more stars than any review could hold. But, it’s worth noting that the food, drinks and atmosphere were exactly what we needed as well. We’re so thankful. Great food makes a great restaurant; no doubt Taisho has that. But part of being an exceptional restaurant is also being a great neighbor. Taisho is a great neighbor. I hope you never need them the way we did, but I do hope you go. Thanks Taisho team.
